Managing the Stakeholders

On June 17, CFO Magazine and Alex van Groningen will organize CFO Day 2010 in Hotel Okura in Amsterdam. CFO Day is the conference for CFOs, Finance Directors and direct reports.

The main theme of CFO Day 2010 is 'Managing the Stakeholders'. This theme has been chosen after many conversations and meetings with CFOs, Platinum partners of CFO Day and our content partner Strategic Management Centre (prof. Derkjan van der Leest and prof. Frans Roozen).

A crucial question that concerns us all is the legitimisation of companies in our society. The time is past when companies are judged purely on their financial results. Companies have to deal with a multitude of social forces and doubt is now being cast on the beneficial operation of the capitalist system. This means that more than ever society must be a subject of discussion in the boardroom. This is undoubtedly a major challenge for the CFO who is the embodiment of the economic aspect of the company.

Our statement is that today’s corporate environment calls for attention to be paid to all stakeholders and not just to the shareholders. More than was the case previously, stakeholder management will be critical for companies in protecting their 'licence to operate' and hence their continuity. By putting stakeholder management on the management agenda, priority is given to one of the most challenging questions for the future: ‘how can the company create value for all the parties concerned?’. The theme of CFO Day 2010 is therefore ‘Managing the Stakeholders’.

Currently we are working on developing the programme, which will published on our website in May.

Please save this date in your agenda. We hope to welcome you again on June 17.

Kind regards,
Mando Vroling
